Sunday Report (30 May)

Weekly Summary

Thoughts and Blog

There was a saying that, 90% of the company opened will shut their door at its first year. I guess it goes true for blog as well, but in a much shorter span (one or two month I guess), so I was reserving strength for longevity, on the other hand, I would love to have one meaningful article per week, and some trivial report or idea in between.

Lucky or not, there was 4-5 blogs started on the very same topic in April, which form a nice community and reader awareness, on the other hand, it’s more-the-less harder to stand out in the mass.

I am not sure about the others, but I would be more focus on theory-crafting, that is, more detail about the reason behind their behavior rather than tactics articles, or business reports. The reasoning human behavior always subject to bias, since I can’t (and not have time to) find prove of them…. but hey, that’s what I am interested in :)

The 2-3 posts per week schedules I am trying to keep, so that I can had more time to tailor my idea before publishing. By the idea, I would have more and more idea around on my drafted post, and always had idea to work out. Sometimes there would be 2-3 weeks lag from the time the idea is formed and the post is created.

This will be my 39th post on Wow’s Econ. (Including Sunday Reports)
I didn’t write as frequent as Gevlon and Seth, but more-the-less like Larisa’s.
It would be nice if I can have a Bartender like Larisa or an Editor like BRK’s TJ.
And yet, this is a luxury dream for me…

Blog Downtime: We had some difficulties on the web server (The router actually). and my DNS seems failed to catch up the new ip address. Hopefully the router will behave itself now. Sorry for the downtime :( .

Blogosphere

I did made couple of friends in the process and many interesting blogs.
I get to know more people along the way. while it’s not so challenging to think up an interesting topic once a week, since interesting thing happens all around us anyway, but it really takes time to think about it, solidify the thoughts and write it down… I appreciate that from all my fellow bloggers.

Similar to Seth, I would like to start different column here soon, I don’t know if I can stick with the Thur is The Food Chain thing, but I would try to…
The problem of sticking to the schedule is that, it takes me much time to clean up the article, and my leisure time is pretty random, so maybe I’ll miss one or two column date, if I can’t tidy up the articles on time.

I don’t know if it’s because I get busy on life/work, or because I draft most of my article while I am traveling (On Train) I am having difficulties of organizing my thought into well-structured article. While I am trying to make them clear and stay focus, sometimes a thought will get its own way and developed a totally different article. That’s a strange experience.

Oh, and I’ll start take parts in one of the Seth’s column as well, let see what we can do there…

Business

the BLSH business is shrinking, and I am only selling the remaining stocks (can’t spot any sweet deal recently), that grant me about 100-200g per day.

I do gain more and more from the glyph business, buying the materials(Herbs), books (80-100g each) used up most of the revenue (I bought about 3-4 book a day) (Who said Education is cheap?), and I am heavily undercutting the others. Say, from auctioneer, the market price is 18-19g; I am willing to undercut it till 4-5g, which is 50% profit for the ink. (For the book of learning it yet, I need to sell 20-30 glyphs for the price of a book). I am listing 400-500 glyphs per day,

Subtracting the cost of the books and herbs, I still earn around 300-400 per day (which deduced I got 50-100 glyph sold every day). Pretty decent compare to the BLSH business. This may be not much compare to farming, but a good start for a profitable business.

It sounds as if you need a hug.

You know, blogging is fun, but it’s also demanding in a way that I think that many blog readers don’t realize. To run a blog, not a week or two, but month after month, continously providing new content, sometimes without much respons… it takes effort. If you go back to the posts I wrote a year ago, when I had been blogging as long as you have, you’ll see that I got almost no response whatsoever. It took me a very long time to come to the point where I am now. So even if it’s tough, I suggest that you try to find your inspiration in the blogging activity, the joy of writing and exploring your thoughts and ideas, rather than in the response you’ll get. Otherwise you’ll risk to get disappointed or even burn out.

I think you’re promising and I’ve added you on my roll. Even though I’m not a huge fan of Wow economy as a topic. I think the more philosophical aspects, as Gevlon and you provide, are much more interesting than how-to-earn-gold-on-inscription guides.

Thanks for the support and hug, actually I am not burning out… yet. The responds are more than I expected, (I had a blog for my daily life back then in chinese, with 3-4 comments for a whole year)

Kept busying on work, and I finally get my girlfriend playing with me on Azeroth. (I appreicated her effort on that, and she’s really cute when playing as a melee-hunter), So I had lesser time on writing now. I do try to keep up my schedule and quality though. I guess this had happened when you start playing with your daugther right? (Did I remember that correctly @@?)

I really on to that philosophical more and I enjoy writing that (My gf sometime find that boring and “bias” as she put it thought…), and that would standout from the econ-rush I guess :) . (And I wonder how Gevlon got some many idea everyday, he is writing really fast for that, professional author level I guess).

I still got tons of idea to write, just need the time to iron out and put into words. May be with more pratice I can do it quicker and better…

Really thanks for your comments and your caring :)

I started about 2 months ago, about when Skooge was listed on WoW.com. He inspired me to try to make some gold. I was never broke but never had a lot of gold.

Just bought my mecho-hog and still have about 13k on my bank toon.

Are you cutting the glyphs by more then a few copper at a time? I noticed that posting for 12 or sometimes 24 hours to keep turning them over works better for me. Rather then cutting too deep. There are people who don’t look at historical data and just undercut anyway. My server has a few glyphs that are only a few days from buying out to vendor prices.

I don’t only sell glyphs thought. I try the BLSH market but it is pretty tight on my server. Usally the only items that get thrown up are glyphs that people are undercutting to the bone. I also DE for profit and sell netherweave bags.

Keep up the great work! I love reading other ideas and adventures.

    • Zekta Chan Says:

Guess what, we are on exactly the same market :)

I got a tailor work for me on netherweave bags, and stopped on DE thought…
I do 5% price cut, since I don’t have time to unlist and undercut again. (I don’t have the leisure time to relogin and sell again) So I am listing for 48 hours… I do observe that, the first hours sell better than all the others (Fresh-listing that is), so as you said it would be much better to list for 12 hours.

I started by Skrooge as well (and BRK and Gevlon), thinking It would be nice if I do so as well. I hope he can get back soon…
I am considering to start a colum on fellow bloggers, BRK, Gevlon, Larisa, Skrooge is definitly on my list.

    Don’t feel disheartened and burnout,

Its okay to take your time and put your heart out in writing articles. What matters most is that you write about what you’re interested in and that you find enjoyment in doing it.

In fact, you’ve written more posts than me

While you may not see that many comments, take heart that your posts are being read!

    • Zekta Chan Says:

I still got plenty to babble about, just hadn’t got much time to write them all down. I am not burnt yet :)
Just had to schedule more time for this. (Am digging up my last penny in my bank account for a nettop ;) )
      Thanks for showing up anyway.

  • Seth Says:

Hey now Zekta, don’t give up on uss!
You’re my favorite thing to read here on the blogsphere and i won’t let you go! /hug

Can’t wait to start working together ;)

    grtz

I asked my girl-friend that did I sound too discouraged on this post? I am not. Actually, I just need more time for posting things up, while I hardly find any. I have no plan on stop writing yet. (Some blogs did slow down their update too, /sigh)

A prove that I join you on the column right ;) ? I am not leaving, just a little disappointed I missed some schedule of mine…

I actually expected that I’ll get busy or get slow down on posting things up from the first day, So I started on a relaxed schedule (instead of one post per day like others).

Will get better in no time, Don’t worry..
And Thanks everyone for showing up…
