Are you a scribe yet?

The most Profitable Profession.

The most Profitable Profession.

My Reasons (Excuses) of not learning inscription before

Although Gevlon and Markco ensured inscription is still the most profitable profession, I was hesitated to actually become on myself. This is a summary of what drew me back…

  1. I was busy on the BLSH and Disenchanting business, which gave me 300-500g per day.
  2. My cash flow was always 4-5k and I am always reinvesting the remain into the market again, for investments and low-priced items. (I’ve 6 stacks of Eternal Life as investment)
  3. Lack of alts – which means I had to drop one of the profession for the inscription. And since I aimed to be Grandmaster Scribe I need a 65lv+ alt, while I only have 2 toons at the moment (My DK is on the horde side)
  4. Last but not least : Cowardness

In my life, I always doubted when I made a conservative decision.

Is that because of reasoning from facts, or is that just my fear of changes?

It’s reasonable to stay back from big investments when your cash-flow is low (on point 2). And Lacks of alt requires me to drop one of the money making profession (50-100g per day) for it as well (point 3).

The Turning Point

  • Steady flow of cash – Although it happened long ago (I do book keeping) , knowing it is an random event. I had purchased dual spec last week (Since I kept on earning money and always had some spare cash around). I discovered that, from my BLSH business, I already can spare 1k per week on investments (Which is not much for Big Traders, but consider I had only 20k total estimated-value goods).
  • In my whining post about raid, Gelvon asked me why I don’t buy a spot as he did. One of the reasons is that I don’t have enough earning and gears. So I had incentive to earn more now
  • I decided to drop my 150 enchanting for the inscription. Which is not a big hassle, since I can have my low level alts to deal with it, I consider mid-level disenchanting not very money-efficient (The Profit to price of gear is not as great as low level one). But that’s discarding 100-200g skill training investment
  • The Most important one, is that Gelvon and Markco ensure that the inscription profession is still very profitable

What I did, and Tips for new scribes

  • Take a deep breath, and tell the Inscription trainer “I cannot do that stupid gear-crushing work anymore, can you teach me how to do those lovely writing thing?”
  • Buy a [item]Pack of Endless Pockets[/item] or even two, for some reasons, the prices goes very low on my server (<10g), My assumption is that, it’s on the leveling path of leather-working. The price of herb bags are very high (300g+), so don’t bother
  • With one bag empty in bank, so you can swap the back in and out if you don’t have a dedicate bank alt for it like me
  • Sell Green Pigment or ink on mid level, unless you want to create the off-hand or tarot for profit. I didn’t check the price for it though…
  • Low level ink ([item]Moonglow Ink[/item], [item]Ivory Ink[/item])is not worth stocking, also as their associated pigment and herb. Since you’ll probably need only one [item]Moonglow Ink[/item] per day for Minor Inscription Research anyway
  • The Sweet spot of inscription started from selling Glyphs, so never consider give up before you crafted your first Glyph. The profit margin is about 200-300% f you pick the right glyph
  • [item]Ink of the Sea[/item] price should be you anchor point for pricing, Jessica loves us!
  • LilSparky’s Workshop and AdvancedTradeSkillWindow combo do help a lot for the “profit-rotation”.
  • As suggested by others, the mid-level pigment and ink is always overpriced/inflated on AH, don’t bother buying/selling

I am a happy businessman hereafter

Sidenote: I am 350 inscription now, and spent around 1000g (While had a stock of ink and Glyph). But I expect to earn those back in a few days. (I got a lots of herbs on 60% off for milling to Ink of the sea)
Sidenote 2: I may write up another tips post, for more organized thing I encounter while leveling (The list now is relevant to 0-250 level).

How about you? are you start to sell Glyph yet?

I think you mean ‘you’ll probably need only one Moonglow Ink per day’. Unless you meant that getting enough Moonglow Ink for continued research was going to be difficult…

Glad to see you have started a new venture, I am sure it will pay off greatly. You may also want to consider milling for ink of the sea, then converting it to jadefire and selling on the AH.

Thanks for the tips, but I guess I’ll never understand why they don’t buy the ink of the sea instead.

Same reason for the Mammoth Cutters?

I also notice, scribe in training will buy the ink of the sea instead, as they can’t mill it yet (and the herbs of low level ink is rather expensive).

Naw, no inscriptionatronix for me yet… I don’t have a clue on the ins and outs of that market yet, but rest assured I’ll monitor your venture closely

You should really try this, if you can spare an alt on 65 level. Averge material cost is 1-3g, and average selling price is 5g+.
And the bonus point is Darkmoon Card.

So far, this is the best profession they have in game. The are so many products can be sold when you are leveling and profitable.
