Guest Blogger – BigJimm!

Thanks to advertisement among the blogosphere, we finally got a guest blogger here!

I started looking for guest poster / co-author from the very first day. This was a small project of mine from the start. I know I am not as enthusiastic as Seth in many aspects, That’s why I always posted in a relaxed schedule. However, A more frequent update is much better (Compare to gevlon’s daily updates which start our days)

I used envy that BRK got TJ, and Larisa got Elnia. And it’s always better that we can have more voice on P3P.

If you want your post posted here too, don’t worry, the gate is not closed yet.
We would always welcome more contributors to post here on Phase 3: Profit.

No more delay, Welcome BigJimm *clap hands*

Hi all,

Zekta is taking a little break, and so he’s put out the call for an assistant. I was lucky enough to strike him as competent, and so now I’ll post here occasionally.

In real life, I’m an American. I’m a college graduate. I’m actually a law school graduate too (and to anyone considering law school, I say DON’T DO IT!). My likes: WoW, Southeast Asian martial arts, excellent punctuation, and long walks on the beach. My dislikes: PuGs, slow auction houses, and split infinitives. I am, in sum, a complete nerd stereotype, in the flesh. But enough about me, let’s talk about my toons!

I am a level 80 endgame warrior tank. I’m a gnome on Anetheron-US, a slow PvP realm. I have good gear, and raid with a regular 10-man group in my pseudo-casual/hardcore guild (we clear regular raids but not hardmodes, making us thoroughly middle-of-the-pack). My favorite PvP is the AH, and I usually sit at around 10k gold- not great but good enough to own a chopper, buy BoE gear, and the occasional pet (for which I have a weakness). I have other toons too, but the warrior is the Chosen One, my main, my first and favorite toon.

So, my first post is a bit of an inquiry more than a proper content post: what do you, dear readers, want to hear about? Zekta is a man of reason, and I am a man of… well… somewhat less reason and maybe a little too much impulse. I like tanking, I understand the gem market on my server, and have too many opinions generally.

I first thought I would start with a simple post, ie: “Netherweave is drying up because everyone in the Outland is flying” or “Enchanting mats are going to lose value because of abyssal shatter.” However, Zekta said, essentially, that those were bad ideas for posts for two reasons: (1) Everyone knows this information, and (2) I should work a little harder for a post than just posting the stuff everyone knows.

(He didn’t actually say that verbatim- he was much nicer. However, I think his assessment was accurate- I mean, you all know that netherweave cloth is going to skyrocket, right? That’s not much of a post.)

And so, after this brief introduction, I ask a second time: what would you like to read? Perhaps a series on making money after starting on a new server? Or a mailbag-style question and answer series? Maybe a running diary of me tanking a hardmode (sure to be profane, fyi)?

Tell me what you want, and if I can, I’ll write about it. Put the answers in the comments- I promise I’ll read them, at least the timely ones.

Welcome :) Really enjoyed your guest blogpost, it was written well and very clearly presented – you seem like a really nice guy already!

As for future topics, I’d be interested to hear your take on stockpiling for 3.3. It is something that more and more people appear to be doing, not just as we get closer to the patch, but in every patch there seems to be more stockpiling going on than the patch before.

It would be interesting to hear your take on it, as well as your personal opinion on how worthwhile it is, and so on :)

Again, glad to see P3P has got itself yet another great blogger!

    Welcome!

One thing I rarely see discussed is opportunities for new players to make decent coin while leveling. The standard recommendation is to pick up two gathering professions but no almost no one talks about the meat, fish, and cloth markets.

There is even a quest which may reward you with several hundred gold depending upon the path you choose. I am aware I am being obtuse but long-time players are likely to be able to figure it out.

As to the auction house, I am always curious how other players use it. How do other players find their niche? What triggers them to diversify or change markets? Whether they read the PTR release notes.

I might even want to hear about bad investments. I bought 28 Tank O’Terror and so far it has been a disaster because their value has gone slightly a few percentage points since the holiday event went away.

That’s all for now but I will be back.

English is my second language so go easy on my grammar and punctuation!

    > you all know that netherweave cloth is going to skyrocket, right?

Could have used this information two days ago… hit me hard today. To be fair, I am my own failing; I should have predicted this already. Lesson learned.

    >Maybe a running diary of me tanking a hardmode (sure to be profane, fyi)?

    1. Rum & Coke
    2. ???
    3. Profit

Though maybe it’s just me, you seem TOO nice. I am thinking now a certain GG has burrowed his way into my chest and taken my heart for sale on the black market. Though that might be too-high risk for low reward… I don’t know what organs go for these days. I have always thought Zekta could use a double-check, like the U.S. Congress has the House to tell them they’re doing it wrong… you could catch Zekta losing profit and show to us readers how she could shape it up.

Even though that may not be the specialty of someone who sits on only(!) 10k, in the end you may even end up helping yourself by taking that angle in writing.

Welcome! Havent posted in a while, but always reading, :) Enjoyed the post.. humor and possible profanity.. have to love that. :) What do I want first- make Hugmenot explain that quest . .( although if it has to do with Night elfs. I think I know… )
Good luck and look forward to your wisdom!

  • Zekta Chan Says:

Sorry folks, thanks for all the comments.
I was planning to leave BigJimm to reply to all of these.. but I just recognize I didn’t hand him the key to the blog yet. so I’ll post it once I got his reply on email

    @Xaxziminrax
That had way back to August when we come across…
    http://phase3profit.net/2009/08/price-increases-in-outland-drops/

That’s said I may give an bad advice to him for not talking about it :( Since I thought everyone knows. Oops…
Anyway, I am really pleased he’s here and thanks for your response :)

“Netherweave is drying up because everyone in the Outland is flying”, said BigJimm.

I’m afraid I don’t see much evidence of this. There’s just no shortage of netherweave on my server, and the prices reported on http://www.wowecon.com don’t show any sign of inflation.

Bigjimm also says “I mean, you all know that netherweave cloth is going to skyrocket, right?”
Well, I would think that the future tense is wrong here. Either Netherweave cloth already has skyrocketed, or it isn’t going to. This is not news. On my server, this isn’t even history!

Also, I don’t understand why Xaxziminrax was taken by surprise by this just a few days ago. The event that caused the supposed shortage, cheaper flying, was introduced months ago. The only catalyst for a sudden price spike would have been either BigJimm’s comment, or more likely, a bagmaker temporarily sucking up supply.

Or am I missing something obvious here?

    • Zekta Chan Says:

This missed the point of the post, but I’ll reply anyway
The reason we(I) predict a short supply on August is that.:

People is flying instead of walking on outland, the major supply of the Nether weave is not from farmer (You’ll make far more gold by farming other thing than Nether weave cloth), but from Leveling player.

Since they avoided lots of fights on outland, (Compare the killing your way to a boss mob to fly your way directly to him). We expected the price drop long ago.

Unless your server already had a very high price on Nether weave, or it’s suppled mainly by farmer (Which is unlikely). You should expect a price different on Pre, Post -Outland-Flying nerf.

  • Dàchéng Says:

    Hi Sarainy,

I may well have missed the point of the post!

Anyway, you also missed the point of my comment, which was to say that “Netherweave is drying up because everyone in the Outland is flying” was news in August, but isn’t news in November.

Moreover, not only is it no longer news, it is no longer true. Netherweave supply is not drying up any more. It dried up (or did not dry up) a month or two ago. Its supply is steady-state, now. Prices may have risen a month or two ago, but they have reached an equilibrium and will not change further.

Actually, prices did not change, according to wowecon, on most servers; leading me to conclude that there was no drying up on most servers. On those servers where there was a shortage, that supply is back to a steady state now, and prices will not change further.

  • Bigjimm Says:

It’s a good thing I didn’t write a post about Netherweave, isn’t it? I’m sure I would have gotten something wrong if I’d written that post…
