Commodity Prices on the Rise

Did you, dear reader, see this, by Markco? He’s talking about the death of bots. Why do you think Blizzard is focusing on bots?

Well, how about this? And this? It seems that our buddy, Gevlon, is on the warpath about this, and prices are responding. Still don’t believe me? Well…

Did you see this, too?

Or hear this? Maybe at say… minute 25-26?

Well, if not, I’ll sum up: Blizzard seems to be cracking down on bots. That’s killing supply of commodities, which translates to prices increasing.* This, coupled with the mobile AH (and the resultant ability for many more people to snipe any errant low auction), means that prices are going to go up for basic commodities.

*This is basic macro economics. As supply goes down prices go up. Think of it like an X: as supply goes down, that’s like adding demand pressure (supply going down is, for our broad purposes, the same as demand going up)… and the more people want something, the more that thing costs.

What does that mean? Well, be prepared to pay more. Or maybe try to find a dedicated farmer. Or maybe just get out that hoe and start farming again. As Stompalina said in Rawrcast Episode #73, “80g for a stack of Lichbloom? That’s Bull<genital expletive>!” What say you, Snoop Dogg? Time to break out the hoes?

Fo' shizzle!

Done and done. I’ve been observing this for about a week, and it seems to be accurate. So keep your eyes open for affordable commodities (leather, ore, herbs, and anything else that could be botted), and try to adjust your strategies accordingly.

I think that this is a very logical argument and that the rise will be sustained, particularly in specific material markets moving into the Wrath of the Lich King. This, I feel is going to be fueled by the new achievements that will be coming in, and by the fact that we experience inflation after expansion packs.
