Starter Cash: Remember, Time is Money to Everyone
I’m a pet collector. Today, on my AH (Earthen Ring), I bought this pet for 10,000g:
If you’re trying to make gold, this is the example of something that could net you a BUNCH of gold if you’re willing to part with a rare drop. The disgusting oozeling is another example of something people will pay TONS of money for to save time. A third example? Farming the Heavy Junkboxes that you need for the Insane title.
Why does this matter? It’s a two-way street. I, as the buyer, am happy to pay a ton of gold to save myself the time of farming the rare drop in question. You, as the broke player, are either (1) lucky, or (2) determined, and so have in your possession an item that is worth thousands of gold.
Here’s the point: People with lots of gold in WoW will pay money to save time. That’s what Gevlon talks about constantly, what Markco harps on, what Euripides/Basil uses to evaluate how he should proceed… time. Time really is money. Equate time to value. The Hyacinth Macaw drops at a less than 1% drop rate- that’s where the value comes from.

(PS: I still feel like I got a deal- 10k is 50% market value! Woot! I used it, but if I was going to flip it, I’m sure it would have sold for 15k at least.)

Did I mentioned it? I got one sitting in my guild bank, just in case someday I really broke in Azeorth.
I got mine with 7k, on the Xmas time.
Time is Money for everyone, that’s true… I bear that in mind in my venture in Eve, and save me lots of trouble (And makes lots of isk on the way)

Darn! I had been watching the Macaws on the ER AH and they hadn’t dropped under 17.5k or so in weeks. I would have snapped one up for 10k

I bought a macaw for myself a few weeks ago for about 8500 gold. They’ve been appearing a little more often on the AH over the last couple of months. I’m always tempted to buy them to flip for a profit, but I prefer just buying them when I want a character to have it.
