Cataclysm Professions Require Level 84?

This is one of those times that I try to help out a fellow gold-blogger as best I can, as I am made aware of something of interest to all of us. Do you, Dear Reader, remember our old friend Euripides, Call to Auction co-host and WoW Gold Blogger extraordinaire? Of course you do! Let’s give him some help.

He noticed earlier that it was recently reported on the JMTC forums that leveling a profession past 500 in Cataclysm will require a character level of 84 to train.

Euripides did some digging, and then posted on twitter indicating that apparently this level restriction was limited to only a few professions, specifically the crafting professions that craft BOE gear- Leatherworking, Blacksmithing, and Tailoring.

I’m not sure where good ol’ Euripides got this information, but he’s typically very thorough about these sorts of things. Also, I’m not clear if level 84 is required to train past 500 for these professions generally, or if it’s for something specific, ie: a new form of specialization. (Granted, this seems very, very unlikely, but I can’t discount anything at this point.)

So, Dear Reader, let me know what you think. Do you have anything to add to this? If so, put it in the comments. P3P is all ears. Thanks in advance for all the feedback.

I believe he read this post http://kaliope.crafterstome.com/2010/10/profession-vendors-in-new-beta-build.html

Summary: Blacksmithing and Leatherworking trainers have no recipes over 500 skill and the Traders in Highbank only appear at the end of a quest chain that begins at 84. Tailoring may follow the same path.

I’m not sure about enchanting trainer locations, but you have to be 84 to get many of the recipes, as they’re also phased in Twilight Highlands.

  • Worlds Apart Says:

Well this wouldn’t be unusual since these sort of requirements are already in the game for tailoring & enchanting (I never got a BS high enough to find out).

  • Hagu Says:

i have been following this on kaliope (tbh
I really, really dislike this way of doing professions; I guess it is better than having to be 85 and raiding to get the best recipes. But it seems like an annoying way to limit a profession; if Blizzard wants a toon to be 84, then say 84. Why say 75 but then have a de facto requirement of 84. )

BTW, there are other professions that can craft some BoEs (e.g. inscriptions offhands) that don’t seem to be handicapped this way.

This is a big deal and will clearly affect the order I level my professions. If they don’t correct this, I at least wish they would at least finalize it ASAP so I can plan ahead.

I’m on the fence about this. If this goes live, would make for some scenarios where a powerleveler could have a market monopoly for a while until all the other alts catch up.

Actually LuckLash, he told us on skype that he read it on the JMTC forums, but that’s neither here nor there.

I think it’s a terrible idea phasing a handful of professions. Either all or none in my humble and soft spoken opinion.
