I Answered The Call

Bigjimm
Bigjimm

Everyone has goals. Whether it’s getting gold-capped or just getting epic flying, we all have goals. When I first approached Zekta about being a part of P3P, my personal goal was to write, and to do so with skill. I liked making gold in WoW and was good at it, but I wanted to see if I could consistently write about it. In fact, some of the posts that bring me the most satisfaction are not about gold at all. The challenge of writing well was my motivation. Consequently, I am surprised in that very unexpected way to say that today I took a significant step from  being “Bigjimm, blogger” to being “Bigjimm, blogger and podcast guest/podcaster.”

I was the guest this afternoon for the recording of episode 12 of the Call to Auction podcast. I’ve written about the podcast here before, and I’m sure that anyone who reads P3P regularly is aware of it. It’s the podcast done by Markco, JMTC founder, and Euripides, of Outdps.com and Wow.com. It is an excellent source of information, and I’m very excited to have been a part of it.

The recording seemed to go well. The three of us answered questions that folks had sent in (calltoauction@gmail.com), tried to stay on topic, and generally had a good time. The episode should be posted within the next day or so. I am simultaneously nervous and excited. The thing that is a little nerve-wracking is the “live” nature of the podcast- I have to sound articulate and entertaining, and don’t have the privilege of editing that comes with blogging. And because this is my first foray into anything like this, I’m sure I’ll be unhappy with my performance. But that is to be expected I suppose, and, to steal a line from Don Draper, I have a deep voice and people find that reassuring. So I’ve got that going for me, I guess.

It looks like this is going to be a regular gig for me. Today I was “guest,” but it appears that I’m going to be a regular part of the show as a co-host. This is exciting, and I think it will benefit the show- everyone knows that a three-man booth is the best. Maybe I’ll be Charles Barkley to Euripides’ Ernie and Markco’s Kenny the Jet. We’re planning on some live shows in the future, and I’ll give notice here when they’re firmed up.

Because I had a little time before we taped the podcast, I dropped into listen to TIPOAA to hear the dulcet tones of Mike Schramm, Turpster, and their guest of the day… Markco! That’s right, he was on TIPOAA before we recorded. They talked about WoW gold as well, and generally had a great time. I even got a shout-out from both the hosts, and Turpster again confirmed that he likes Bigjimm. /flopfaint

All in all, today was a happy day in the gilded halls of the Bigjimm Estate. So do me a favor and listen to Call to Auction. Give a little feedback, send in a question, and let us know what you think.

Finally, I’d again like to thank Zekta. He and I make a good team. I’ve always been impressed with Markco’s approach and industry, and Zekta tends to come more from the Gevlon/goblin school of thought. We balance each other out well, and he was very gracious about this whole podcast thing. I sent him an e-mail a while back that said, essentially, “I think I’m actually going to go on this podcast. Is that cool?” His response was, in so many words, “Are you kidding? Of course it’s cool!” He was spectacular and supportive, just as he always is. (Another reason that Zekta’s cool, besides how great he is to work with? He’ll send you links to delicious-looking food. I was dead-hungry and wrote him an e-mail that said he should go eat some excellent Hong Kong street food because I was hungry and I live in rural New England. He obliged, and sent me that link.)

Well, dear reader, that is just about all I’ve got from Casa Bigjimm, at least for now. Thanks, as ever, in advance for any and all feedback. We look at it and read it all.

GL! /bow

My little special setup on Glyph Industry

Zekta Chan
Zekta Chan

Note: This is a glyph selling goblin post, if you are not interested in this profession, you may skip the rest (Thanks for coming though)

As I said before, I had been using KevMar’s Addon Beta, I changed some config to suit my own need.

I’ll share that with you guys here.

From the code and KevMar mentioned, there would be a threshold function, skipping the glyphs which are too cheap to produce. (Better to buy them from the Auction as he suggested, not working on my beta version yet…)

There is also a skip single option which skips all the one glyph only entry.

It is nice, but I would like a more extensive one.

My setup:

I am listing 4 glyphs at a time (by QA2), and I would maintain a stock of 8 glyphs. I post the glyph twice a day, so this effectively a 2 rotation of glyph listing. I am crafting every two day, with KTQ, that save my time a lot.

My hack to the Mod:

Instead of filling up the stack, I get to work like this.

I wouldn’t craft a glyph, unless it’s lesser than 4 in my stock. (The 1-2 crafting entry will increase the queue a lot)

For the glyph I had to craft, I make some more. I’ll craft [Amount Need to Craft] * 150% instead of [Amount Need to Craft].

That is

Stock Left Amount need to Craft Actual Crafting Amount
8 0 0
7 1 0
6 2 0
5 3 0
4 4 6
3 5 7
2 6 9
1 7 10
0 8 12

Objective

What I am trying to do, is to bulk the crafting queue of each craft into a bigger stack, so I would reduce the time I need to click the XXX process button in Skillet.

I’ll wait till I lack a large amount (Instead of crafting one or two), and also restocked over the the target size, to allow more room for buffer.

Example:

  • The worst case scenario: one glyph sold between each ktq scan.
In the previous system, I had to craft that glyph each time it scan, now I only need to do one every 6 scan (Re-craft at cycle 4, then I am overstock with 2 glyph), A longer craft time, but I reduce my queue click at 6 to 1.
  • Popular glyph, the faster the glyph consume, the system will overstock more, effectively increase the buffer space.

Some of you may notice, in this scheme, even with the extra crafting, I will never overstock a glyph more than 20 (The stack size), so I will not run into bag slot problem as well.

Summary

This reactive setup hopefully will save up much of my time on restocking. Now only if I can get my mail faster……..

P.s 1

If anyone interested in my little hack, just leave a comment,

I’ll have the code released. (And I guess that would be after KevMar’s public release first)

P.s 2

Some explanation, if you care enough – I don’t like camping the AH, so the possible profit is my acceptable loss, and I am not able to sustain the need of my server, the profit per glyph and the glyph crafting time will overwhelm my play time, so, No, I didn’t use the Gevlon Method.

Guild in Cataclysm : To Reduce Divorce Rate ?

Zekta Chan
Zekta Chan

I hesitative to talk about the guild changes of cataclysm, I know it will be huge, but since it’s not set, so I don’t want to talking about it much before.

Heat discussion had been on, and I am with the goblin.
Guild life won’t be better, same people, different game setup. (Just another thing to grind, IMO)
M&S will still out-number the player with the right attitude (or Elite-Jerk at their view).

Attaching player’s effort to keep them to a guild,
= Enforce a harder divorce policy in a country to reduce Divorce Rate

Of course the benifits on the guild (IRL, tax reduction from goverment) will make player hesitative to look for a better guild, and stay in a guild (Sololist on Elnia ‘s term).
It surely will decrease divorce rate (Guild Hopping) and increase the number of couples (Player stay in guild, rather than soloing).

But will that increase happy marriage (Which we really want?)
or just prolonging painful matches?

We’ll see…

P.s
Once again, I respond on topics rather than a original one, call me traffic leecher if you want to, but I rather post my comment here than a sinking long list of comments :)
